“Want to make 2010 your best year yet?”
Go find a note pad and consider these questions…
Knowing what you want is the first step to getting it. Knowing what’s holding you back is the second step to making sure you get to keep it.
Write down your answers so you can see your progress later.
1. What do I want to achieve this year? Write down as many goals as you want in any area of your life, health, wealth, relationships, etc. If you are really stuck on even coming up with a goal, start by asking yourself if I could be, do or have anything in life, what would it be? Then select one goal that’s central to your overall plan. Determine the interim action steps it will take to get you there. (You can identify the last step and work back from there.) At the Breakthrough to Success weekend, you will be given the chance to put that very personal dream into your future in such a way that its fulfilment becomes almost effortless.
2. Ask yourself, is this something I have tried to achieve before and not been successful? For instance, has it been a New Year resolution in the past? Or on your To Do list for several years without completion or success?
3. If yes, ask yourself, what has stopped me in the past? This might include time, money, not having the right opportunities, lack of motivation, procrastination, lack of self belief, not knowing how to achieve it, or maybe you don’t know what has stopped you.
4. With regards to achieving your goals and following through on your plans, what patterns have you noticed occurring? For example, do you often put lots of energy and enthusiasm in at the start, then within a couple of weeks find you’ve lost motivation? Do you put off getting started for so long you just give up? Do you start too many projects at once, and end up overwhelmed and under-motivated? Identifying your unique patterns is key to changing them.
5. What about limiting beliefs? What you tell yourself can also stop you from achieving your most prized goals and visions. For example, if you have decided that this is the year you find the right relationship, believing that you are not worthy of love will sabotage your plans. If you told yourself that this year is the year you finally find the right job or start the business you’re passionate about, but you have an underlying belief that, “I’m not smart enough,” or “It’s impossible to find work in this market,” how motivated will you be? How effective? Listen to what you tell yourself about what you believe limits you.
6. If there were 2 important changes that need to occur in order for you to be totally successful and reach your goals, what would they be? E.g. Have more confidence in yourself? Be more creative? Break patterns of self-sabotage? Get over fear of speaking in public? Write down anything and everything that comes to mind. Most of them can be resolved at your Breakthrough to Success!
7. What help, support or resources do you need? This could be a mentor, additional skills, a ‘how to’ guide, a clear action plan, sounding board or someone to brainstorm with, etc. Identify what research you can do on your own and the resources you can obtain in the form of books, CDs, personal development. There are lots of free resources available such as the Breakthrough to Success event that will guide you to pinpoint what’s stopping you from achieving your goals. Take advantage of anything that teaches you the strategies and techniques that change limiting behaviours. This will set you on a clear course for success.
8. List 3 things you can do each day starting now to move forward with achieving your goals. Enlist the help of a friend, partner or coach. To establish your own accountability, tell them what you intend to do. This puts the power squarely in your hands to determine your results.
9. Take action daily and review your goals weekly. Many small steps towards your goal will move you towards the accomplishments you wish to attain.
10. Keep the top 3 goals written on a 3 x 5 card in your desk drawer or in your wallet and look at them once a day. Ask yourself, why do I want to achieve these goals? What will that give me or do for me? The "why" is your grander purpose and will motivate you to persist in taking action until it’s completed.
11. When you achieve a goal, celebrate! This is a great way to reward yourself for a job well done. It will anchor that wonderful sense of achievement within your psychology and physiology. This will only lead to building more and more success!
Remember, there are no limitations, except those that are self-created…and those you can change at Breakthrough to Success!

Overcome Negative Thinking with Free Ebook
You know what you want to achieve in life and you are very positive about those goals. But they remain just out of reach. Why?
The main culprit can be negative thought patterns even though you are not aware of them. You think you are thinking positively but in fact, most of your thoughts are more about what you want to avoid eg financial problems, lack of loving relationships and the fears which bring the “What if?” questions. You know, “What if I can’t get out of debt? What if I don’t win that contract? What if I never find Mr/Miss Right? What if he/she leaves me? What if I get sick?"
You might not even be aware that you are focusing on these negative questions but they will ultimately cause you to self-sabotage any good that may happen in your life and eat away at your self-confidence.
"The way to overcome negative thoughts and destructive emotions is to develop opposing, positive emotions that are stronger and more powerful." says the Dalai Lama. Wise words indeed.
But how do we go about achieving this? Happily, help is at hand in the form of a new video-ebook entitled "Mind Weapons: Overcoming Negative Thinking & Bad Habits". You can download this f-r-e-e of charge at: http://freeselfhelpvideos.com/videobooks.html

Using Positive Self-Talk to Conquer Any Goal
Do you feel like you are always talking yourself out of success? As soon as you start to set goals for yourself, do you suddenly have nagging thoughts about how you aren't up to the task or how you simply aren't qualified to carry it through?
If you have ever experienced either situation, you need to change the way you respond to your inner dialogue. Instead of obeying your negative commands, you can use positive self-talk to counter the negativity and overcome nearly all anxious thoughts.
Setting Goals and Sticking to Them with Positive Self-Talk
Are you initially filled with excitement when you first set goals for yourself? Are these thoughts then followed by self-doubt and self-defeating thoughts that stop you in your tracks before you even get started?
It can be difficult to make the most of your life when you are constantly talking yourself out of being a success. It can be frustrating and discouraging to have these thoughts constantly plaguing you. Many of us, in fact, don't even realize we have them! All we know is that we don't have the confidence to stick to our plans and reach our goals.
But there's another way
Positive self-talk is an effective way to set goals and ensure that you stick to them, even if you have never been able to do this before. The way this works is that you decide what goal is important to you, and then you plan the logistics of how you are going to attain this goal. When self-doubt starts kicking in, you will respond with affirmations that prove your success without surrendering to the negative pressure. Since you're reading this article, it's clear that you're no quitter and you're certainly not a failure, so start believing in yourself!
Re-Programming Your Mind
Affirmations are essentially positive statements that re-program your mind for the positive. The moment you have a self-defeating thought you'd be able to counter the negative with a motivating statement. An example of a positive affirmation is: "I am worthy of great success," or "I see myself in the winner's circle." What this does is replace negativity with thoughts that will help you move toward your goals instead of further away from them.
Positive self-talk is easier to implement than you might think. You may not be aware of the severity of the negative dialogue currently within your mind. However, once you begin with positive self-talk, you will suddenly realize that you are self-sabotaging the goals you set for yourself from the minute that you make them. This process can open your eyes to exactly how much this inner conversation has been interfering with your life. You'll feel hopeful that you can now set goals and surpass them.
Through positive self-talk you will be able easily set long and short-term goals for yourself. And when you use affirmations, you'll have accessible tools to help you push yourself further than ever before. Learning to quiet negativity with positive thoughts is a great move toward setting and attaining future goals with ease.

Don’t Throw the Baby Out With the Bathwater
A few days ago I wrote about self-sabotage, the irrational behavior of acting or taking decisions that are not in one’s best interests.
Some people expect everything to be right, perfect even, before they will commit themselves. What is perfection? If you achieve it, does that mean that is the best it will ever be? Are you closing yourself off to the possibility of an even better experience? How do you know?
It is only by accepting that life will have rainy days as well as sunny days that we can compare the two. I used to live in southern Spain where we expected 320 days of sunshine per year. Paradise you would say. Actually, I could tell you a lot of disadvantages from having so much sunshine. Premature skin ageing for one.
On the way to finding what we think is the perfect scenario, we might miss something which has the potential of bringing us the most joy, the best feeling of satisfaction, contentment or maybe we need to meet a challenge along the way to benefit from the learnings.
“Life is sent to test us.” True. Only by meeting challenge, even adversity, do we grow, become more. The more we learn, the more we can help others to achieve their potential. So the greater contribution to society. Possibly to mankind throughout the ages. How do we know we are not destined for greatness? Or possibly our heirs because of the learnings they gain from our experience.
So my advice is to embrace what you have, appreciate what you have been given, learn the lessons and give of yourself.
Alternatively, you could throw away the gifts you are given in life by rejecting something or someone you think you no longer need or want. That is what we mean by “throwing the baby out with the bathwater”.

Why Do People Self-sabotage Their Lives?
Why do people self-sabotage their lives?
Why do some people with every apparent disadvantage make something of their lives – look at Oprah Winfrey’s life journey - while others with advantages throw it all away, on drink, drugs, poor life choices, destroying relationships with those who love them most?
A student wins a scholarship to a prestigious college but fails to turn in two assignments on time and is asked to leave.
Someone with great musical talent stops practicing, two weeks before an important selection.
On the first day of starting a great new job, a person forgets to set their alarm clock so arrives late creating a poor first impression.
Or the person who says they want a better job but deliberately applies for unsuitable jobs, one they are not qualified for or are not practically possible.
Another person has been told by their doctor that they must lose weight and improve their eating habits drastically to avoid serious illness, possibly death. Full of good intention, they start a sensible eating programme and join a fitness class but stop after just two weeks. The pain of making the change is somehow greater than the pain of the threat of illness.
The person who ignores on-going pain, swallowing pain-killers, refusing to see a doctor then discovering one day they have terminal cancer which could have been cured had they sought help earlier.
A person finally receives the keys to a dream home but neglects to pay the home insurance and the downstairs is destroyed by an electrical fault.
The father who has a loving wife, good children and a happy home but destroys everyone’s happiness by starting an affair.
The person who wants love, wants a togetherness relationship, but when it stares them in the face, runs a mile, too scared to give back and make a commitment. It is easier to find some small reason why they cannot enjoy happiness together instead of choosing to overcome any issues. No relationship is perfect but they go looking for something which does not exist instead of appreciating how fortunate they are to have found someone who loves them.
They say we have a fear of failure but too often, the real problem is fear of success.
What if we really could have it all? Other people do and not just in movies.
Does it come from a deep-rooted feeling of not being good enough, not deserving enough, not capable enough of living up to what will be required of us if we do step into this next stage – even if it means fulfilling our dreams? Why not eliminate that negative comparison “not ….. enough” once and for all? According to who?
Self-sabotage behaviour is when there is no logical or rational explanation for why you cannot do the things you want to do or why you cannot have the things you want to have.
Sometimes it is so frightening to imagine changing, growing or making conscious choices that we deliberately hamper our own efforts. That means that something is going on unconsciously to cause us to self-sabotage.
Self-sabotage is really a form of self-hatred. It is not extreme to say that. There is a fine line between love and hate and if you are self-sabotaging, you have not learned to truly love yourself.
Are you going to allow the negative self-talk to keep you on a path of destruction or are you going to build a better future, brick by brick?
"Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude." - W.W. Ziege
I think we all have situations where parts of us are not in congruence ie part of us says/wants one thing while another part of says/wants something else. This inner dichotomy can cause a great deal of stress if not resolved. NLP has a very effective technique for dealing with this “inner tug-of-war” by integrating the parts when a person is ready.
In which areas of life are you holding yourself back? Do you know why? Is procrastination your enemy? Laziness? Is it fear of success? Fear of commitment? Are you waiting for the perfect scenario? (The UK government did that with the Euro. Now the Pound has fallen from 1.40 € to 1.22 €.)
I suggest you find some quiet time to be with your inner self. Ask yourself what you are afraid of. What fears do you have? What uncertainties? What makes you feel uncomfortable about this goal? For what reasons would you try to hold yourself back? Using a journal to write down questions and answers can help too because writing helps you to connect with the deepest part of yourself. It might take time and practice, but exploring these possibilities can dramatically help you to flee the self-sabotage rut.
Hypnosis sessions can quickly deal with overcoming limiting beliefs, fears and destructive behavior.
Be authentic and true to yourself. You can be, do or have anything you want but first you may need to clear some of the negative obstructions which are holding you back. You can be free to live the life you truly want.
“If you want to make your dreams come true, the first thing you have to do is wake up.” - J. M. Power
“By your thoughts you are daily, even hourly, building your life; you are carving your destiny.” - Ruth Barrick Golden
“Your life changes the moment you make a new, congruent, and committed decision.” - Anthony Robbins
"Procrastination . . . is the thief of our self-respect. It nags us and spoils our fun. It deprives us of the fullest realization of our ambitions and hopes." - Thomas S. Monson
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." – Mark Twain
"Excuses are the words coming from the loser in you." - Robert Kiyosaki in Rich Dad Poor Dad
